USPS Rate Change to Take Effect September 3, 2017
The United States Postal Service (USPS®) received approval from the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC)
to reclassify the First Class Mail Parcel market dominant product.
As a result, a new retail price category will be added to the First Class Package Service mail class, called First Class Package Service Retail. This will include pricing for parcels weighing up to 13 oz., effective September 3, 2017.
This means that you’ll need to use the new rates starting on September 3rd for packages up to 13 oz. or risk returned packages or “postage due” for recipients.
This update will mostly impact parties who ship lightweight goods, as it only applies to parcels weighing up to 13 oz. Prices increased overall, the highest of which is 12% for parcels up to 4 oz. from $2.67 with First-Class Mail Parcels (Retail) to $3.00 for the new class. The following pricing structure will go into effect on September 3.
